Hebbert Charolais Ranch, located in the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills, could best be described as a ‘no frills' family ranching operation. Partners in the operation are Mose and Merla Hebbert, their son Dave and his wife Mickie. Dave and Mickie's sons, Matt, Jake and Josh, represent the fifth generation to have the opportunity to live and work on the ranch that has been in their family since 1886.
Functional cows are the foundation of the Hebbert Charolais operation. The Hebbert cows are not pampered, but expected to utilize the grass native to the area. They are fed hay and provided a protein supplement in the winter.
“Every cow in the herd has been born on the ranch and only the best mommas are kept. We want cows that are problem free. They have to be consistent and high in maternal traits, particularly udder structure, fertility and calving ease. We AI to match genetics to cows we know – moderate framed, easy fleshing cattle with the ability to produce outstanding, functional females and top quality bulls. ”
 Yearling bulls are marketed at the annual Hebbert Charolais Bull Sale held each spring.
Horses are an integral part of the ranching operation. Hebberts raise some of the horses they ride and also purchase a few young horses to train. A select group of ranch horses will be included along with the bulls in the sale offering on April 4, 2008.
